From female caregiver to human rights defender Judith Bront's story is such an impactful story that it continues to inspire many of the women we work with to follow in her footsteps. You can find the detailed story in the series of articles made in partnership with La Vida de Nos where we tell the story of mothers, patients and medical staff at J.M. de los Ríos. After a twelve-year struggle to cope with his son Samuel's chronic kidney disease, an infectious outbreak struck the Hospital's dialysis unit. Of the 25 children receiving treatment, 18 were hospitalized with fever and the same symptoms, Samuel among them. The hospitalized children "received expired antibiotics and with irregular supply." As the article by Milagros Socorro says: After much research, the mothers of the patients were told that the osmosis plant had not been maintained for months. They sent letters to the authorities. To all. They made complaints. They protested. They blocked streets... and when they returned to the hospital waiting room, they heard their children screaming in pain.

VIEW DETAILSWe systematically record violations of the human rights of children and adolescents, and of female caregivers; for which we carry out a process of collecting data and information necessary to achieve reparation for the victims. Health, food, education and recreation are fundamental human rights of children, if any of them are not fulfilled it is our obligation to articulate, mobilize and weave networks to achieve compliance. We cannot allow violations of these rights to go unnoticed or for one more child to lose their quality of life due to a chronic pathology that can be endured. You can collaborate with our cause here.

Children and adolescents, as well as mothers and caretakers need all the support we can get them. In all our years of service we have realized that this support should even help cover their basic needs. Some of them need help getting their children to the hospital; others cannot afford the extremely high costs of the required laboratory testing. Also, most cannot cover funeral related costs when needed either. They are not alone. Our job is to raise funds to cover all these expenses and make strategic agreements with laboratories and funeral homes.
